We just wrapped up a water heater changeout - and this one wasn't your basic swap-and-go job. The homeowner got the full upgrade package, which honestly is the right call when you're already pulling out the old unit.
We installed a new A.O. Smith ProLine XE commercial-grade gas water heater. But the hardware itself is only part of the story. What really makes this setup worth talking about are the three add-ons that came with it - an expansion tank, an electric anode rod, and a leak detection water shutoff valve.
Here's why those things matter. The expansion tank handles thermal expansion in a closed plumbing system. Without it, pressure builds up every time the water heats, and that stress adds up over time - wearing down your tank, your valves, and your pipes faster than they should. The electric anode rod is a step up from the standard magnesium rod that comes factory-installed. It doesn't corrode and degrade the same way, which means it keeps protecting the inside of your tank for longer. And the leak detection shutoff valve is exactly what it sounds like - if water starts pooling at the base, it shuts off the supply automatically before you've got a flooded basement on your hands.
None of these are fancy extras just to pad a bill. They're practical protections that help a water heater last longer and give you a safety net if something goes wrong. Water heaters don't last forever - most tank units have a lifespan of around 8-12 years. If yours is getting up there in age or you've noticed inconsistent hot water, it's worth having someone take a look before it becomes an emergency.
We handle water heater repair and installation - traditional tank units and tankless systems alike. Whether you need a straightforward replacement or want to talk through what upgrades actually make sense for your setup, we're happy to walk you through it.
