Dion’s Complete Plumbing, Heating & Cooling is proud to announce a 13 Seer AC installation for a client in Brighton, MI. The client was finishing off his basement and needed the lines set moved so we went with a whole change out. Upgrading from the R-22 system to a new 4-ton 410-A 13-seer system.

We are excited about this project because it is a great improvement over the previous system and will help keep the client comfortable during the hot summer months! Looking to install a 13 Seer AC? First, we’ll explain what is a Seer rating and why you need one for your home.

What is A Seer Rating?

Your air conditioner’s SEER (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio) rating is an important number to know when purchasing a new AC unit. It measures your air conditioner’s efficiency over the entire cooling season, and it lets you know how much energy your system will use to keep your home cool.

The higher its SEER rating, the better its efficiency. Usually found on a sticker on the exterior of your AC unit, it can range from 10 to 20+ SEER ratings depending on how efficient the HVAC system is.

If you’re in the market for a new AC unit, look for one with an Energy Star rating along with a high SEER rating so that you can save money on your utility bills while keeping your home comfortable all summer long.

13 Seer AC

What is a 13 SEER Air Conditioner?

In the world of ACs, the higher the SEER rating, the better its efficiency. In fact, all central AC units from the 1980s were SEER rating 10 as it was the best one in the market at that time. As time moved on and better technology was introduced, the newest minimum AC efficiency is 13 SEER representing a 30% efficiency boost. Since this is still considered sufficient for most northern states in the US, it still performs adequately and is still used today.

While these 13 SEER rated ACs are still being used by many people throughout northern states like Illinois and New York due to their high energy costs and cold winters, according to DOE research, AC SEER Ratings from 14 to higher are now preferred systems for southern states like Texas and Florida for two reasons: firstly because they require less electricity; secondly because they can increase comfort levels during hot summers.

AC Installation

13 Seer AC VS 14 Seer AC: Which Should You Choose?

If you have a 13 SEER AC or lower thinking that you need to change your unit immediately, keep in mind that this isn’t a mandatory upgrade if you live in the Northern part of the state. This only affects you if you are opting for a new AC installation in hot area of the states.

And if you do install a new AC or Heat Pump, it must be AC SEER Rating 14 and above. The reason why you need a 14 SEER AC is that it is more energy efficient, saving you more money on utility bills.

In addition to this, the benefits of installing a higher SEER rating AC are the eco-friendliness, using up to one-third less fuel as well as the reduced noise it makes. A higher SEER Rating AC also has a two-stage AC compressor, allowing for better cooling while keeping low energy consumption.

Should I Choose a 16 SEER AC Unit Or Higher?

A common question that many people ask when they are choosing an AC unit is whether or not it is worth it to get a higher SEER rating. The answer is yes and no. Yes, you can choose a higher-rated AC to reap more of the benefits from it. But keep in mind that a High SEER rating AC is much, much more expensive than the standard rated ones as they provide more energy efficiency such as the 20 SEER AC. In addition, the maintenance of higher-rated SEER units is also more expensive. So if you have the budget, go for the higher-rated one and if you don’t, a standard one should suffice.

When Do I Replace My Air Conditioning Unit?

The answer is simple: it depends on how old your AC is. If your unit is less than 10 years, it’s better to wait until it’s 15. However, if you have an older unit that is older than 15 years, then it’s time for a replacement. This is because in older SEER-rated ACs such as 10 SEER-rating AC, the parts are no longer manufactured and you will have to throw more money into an already outdated system.
